Project Dryness and Turning into a desert in the Mediterranean basin

The anticipated results of the project are innovating on the one hand thanks to the characteristics of the contributions of each part which make it up (analyzes hydrological cycle, monitoring of the dryness, interventions of fight against the dryness and the turning into a desert, diffusion of the results and training of the persons in charge), on the other hand for the products obtained (model, software data processing, pilot project of a monitoring system), and finally especially for the integrated approach suggested which can be transferée like instrument of knowledge advanced in other territorial contexts. The results could thus be applied with adaptations due to the technological, institutionelles and legal characteristics specific of the local context. From the point of view of operation, the development of a suitable monitoring system will make it possible to equip the area concerned with an instrument of great effectiveness concerning the knowledge of the phenomena and the estimated possibilities.

Objectives "SEDEMED" is interested in the phénomèene of dryness and turning into a desert in the Mediterranean. The project aims to carry out a hydrometeorological data base and to extend the analysis of the hydrological cycle to all the Medocc zone. It is also a question of applying and of checking already existing methodologies for the monitoring of the phenomena of dryness and turning into a desert, of improving networks observatifs, pilot schemes and the application of new indicators, of defining interventions adapted to the fight against the dryness and of exchanging information on the good practices and the training schemes.
