News IAHR UK Section - Young Persons’ Paper Competition 2010

The IAHR UK Section is pleased to announce its 2010 YoungPersons’ Paper Competition. This competition affords youngengineers, students and scientists the opportunity to share knowledgeand experience within the hydraulics research community.

Authors are invited to submit a short paper describing a piece ofresearch or design that they have been involved in that requiredanovel application of hydraulic principles. The paper should include adescription of the problem solved, its context within engineering andscientific endeavour, the hydraulic principles applied and theinteresting element or novelty associated with the solution orapplication. The benefit to industry and the wider academic communityshould also be highlighted.
 
The competition is open to students, scientists and engineers workingin any sector: academic, commercial or government. Submissions will besplit into two categories: research and design innovation.
From the written papers the IAHR UK Section Committee will shortlistcandidates from the two categories who will be invited to present theirpaper at the UK Section Technical Meeting, “From Theory toPractice”, at the University of Birmingham on the 16th September2010. Prizes will be awarded to the candidates presenting at thisevent. 1st Place prize money £400, 2nd place prize money £200. Thejudging panel will be nominated by the IAHR UK Section Committee.
