Symposium: Ecology of invasive Cyanobacteria and occurrence of Cylindrospermopsin producers in Germany and around the world - Results of the CYLIN Project, and Workshop: Taxonomy of Freshwater Cyanobacteria

The results of “Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii and CYN in lakes of the Berlin area - occurrence, causes, consequences” that was conducted by the IGB, BTU-Cottbus and UBA, funded by the Berlin Center of Competence for Water and Veolia Water, will be presented together with an international overview on the ecology of invasive cyanobacteria and CYN-producers. The presentations will be given by the project group and several invited guest speakers from Australia, Canada, Israel, Scandinavia and the Mediterranean Region. Finally, research perspectives will be outlined and new projects will be introduced. In addition to the symposium, a workshop on “Taxonomy of freshwater cyanobacteria of the order Nostocales” will be held. The workshop aims to exchange experience in determining and quantifying cyanobacteria microscopically. Furthermore, it will discuss problems due to morphological variations, conflicting taxa descriptions or use of synonyms. Participants are welcome to contribute with samples from their own study sites or culture collection.
