URL The EU's relations with Algeria

The political and security situation in the country has made financial co-operation between the EU and Algeria difficult, and has led to long delays in the implementation of this co-operation. Channelled through four Financial Protocols, Community funds to the country amounted to EUR 949 million between 1978 and 1996. This was made up of EUR 309 million from the Community and EUR 640 million from the European Investment Bank. These funds are 66% committed, while the payment rate stands at 47%.

Projects have been funded in the following sectors: social and economic infrastructure (60%), water management (11%), agriculture and fisheries (9%), energy sector (7%), and scientific co-operation.
