Normal templateA Geographic Information System (GIS) is a valuable tool for gathering and analyzing environmental information. GIS enables effective and efficient manipulation of spatial and non-spatial data for scientific management of water and develop alternatives of development model for the benefit of local people. It also facilitates modeling to arrive at locale specific solutions by integrating spatial and non-spatial data such as thematic layers and socio-economic data. The database generated will also help the authorities in planning and change monitoring. It is an excellent tool for representing the information geographically which is easy to visualize and interpret.

URL Basin & watershed Level Data and other data: RS/GIS available data IWMIDSP was primarily conceived as a goldmine for benchmark river basin datasets and products. It was also conceived to host quality science datasets and products for Nations, Regions, and the Globe. Ever since it's release, IWMIDSP has provided service to Global research/applied science community with a global public good (GPG) of highest quality. The success of this site is obvious in the attached impact assessment report.
URL GIS data sets on basins, regions, countries

Remote sensing and GIS data from many countries in the world and accessible on the IWMI web site at: http://www.iwmidsp.org. This data set includes for example digital elevation models, rainfall, etc. Such data will facilitate the analysis of basin situations. Contact: Prasad Thenkabail, IWMI, thenkabail@cgiar.org
