News Call for case studies on: Solid waste management, environmental science, green economy and sustainable development

IAP is funding a Global Young Academy (GYA) project to conduct a joint IAP/GYA policy report on "Solid Waste Management and Green Economy".

IAP and GYA have issued a call to their respective membership for experts in the fields of solid waste management, environmental science, green economy and sustainable development to participate in this report. Experts from all over the world are encouraged to participate, i.e. from: countries with advanced economies (G8); transition and emerging economy countries (BRICS); as well as developing economies.
Types of expected participation include the submission of case studies from individual countries, sharing of knowledge on relevant policies and ongoing initiatives in their region, analysis of perceptions, practices and business expectations relating waste management to the green economy, and highlighting the role of the industrial sector in the development of green economy.

Plans are underway for an international expert workshop, scheduled for October 2015 in Halle/Germany. Participating academies will be asked to cover the travel costs of their members.

Details of the call are available HERE.

The form for the submission of case studies is available for download HERE. Deadline: 30 April 2015

Any queries can be directed to the project coordinator, Dr. Sherien Elagroudy: s.elagroudy@eng.asu.edu.eg, or the Managing Director of the GYA, Dr. Heidi Wedel: wedel@globalyoungacademy.net

We are interested in receiving reports on successful initiatives that describe successful examples of how solid waste management can help green economy for countries with advanced economies (G8); transition and emerging economy countries (BRICS); as well as developing economies, in particular in the following areas:

(1)   Investing in greening the waste sector can generate multiple economic benefits.

(2)   Greening of the waste sector requires financing, economic incentives, policy and regulatory measures, and institutional arrangements.

The Project involves three phases:

Phase I

Collection of case study summaries outlining successful examples of how waste management can play a role in green economy.
If you are interested in submitting such a report, please complete the form below and return to us by 30 April 2015. Replies will be screened by an expert committee and by 30 May 2015, 15 – 20 of the best authors will be invited to prepare full-length reports to be submitted by 30 July 2015 detailing their successful experience.

Phase 2

Successful candidates will also be invited to present their work at a workshop to be held in Halle, Germany, in October 2015.

Phase 3

A report containing edited versions of the case studies will be prepared by IAP and the GYA.
