News OECD Survey on Stakeholder Engagement for Effective Water Governance

The OECD Survey “Stakeholder Engagement for Effective Water Governance” is now available through: a questionnaire online (click here) in three languages (English, French and Spanish) until 5 June 2014.

The objective is to collect data on stakeholder engagement trends, drivers and practices to assess the impact on decision-making processes related to water policy and projects. Results from the Survey will help provide evidence-based assessment, collect best practices, and formulate policy recommendations to the intention of decision-makers. Findings will be published in an OECD report to be launched at the 7th World Water Forum (Korea, April 2015). They will also feed the ongoing preparation of OECD Principles on Water Governance and OECD Indicators on Water Governance.

The Survey is targeting a wide range of stakeholders within and outside the “water box”  from OECD and non OECD countries. These include governments (supranational, national, regional, local), service providers (public, private and mixed), international organisations, donor agencies, river basin organisations, businesses, agricultural actors, civil society, trade unions, academia, consumer associations, regulators, media, members of parliament and advisors.

Stakeholders taking part in the survey will be consulted throughout the project cycle with several opportunities to comment on the draft report until the publication is completed. Responses are confidential and will only be treated quantitatively and qualitatively; respondents and their organisations will not be quoted. A follow-up to the questionnaire will collect case studies, on a voluntary basis (June 2014).

The Survey is an undertaking of the working group on “stakeholder engagement” of the OECD Water Governance Initiative, a multi-stakeholder network of 100+ delegates from public, private and not-for-profit sectors gathering twice a year in a Policy Forum to share on-going reforms, projects, lessons and good practices in support of better governance in the water sector.
