News MEDRC Announces 2014 Scholarship Fund for Students from MEDRC Member Countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region

The Program

The MEDRC Scholarship Program offers graduate students who are nationals from MEDRC member countries in the MENA region the opportunity to undertake their PhD/MSc post-graduate study at universities around the world in the field of water desalination.

The aim of the program is to enable the scholars to make a long-term contribution to the further development of desalination in their respective countries. The Program also aims to increase cross-cultural understanding by stimulating international exchange. For a list of MEDRC member countries, please visit our website at www.medrc.org.

General Criteria for Eligibility

The general criteria for eligibility of a MEDRC member country scholarship award are as follows:

  • Applicants must be nationals from a MEDRC MENA member country holding the equivalent of a BSc or MSc.
  • Applicants must meet the academic standards and regulations in the relevant University and obtain unconditional acceptance from a University to start in 2014.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a desire to contribute to advancements in the field of desalination in the MENA region.
  • Thesis should be directly related to a desalination topic representing an immediate need or addressing a specific problem in the MENA region.
  • In order to promote cooperation among institutions, preference will be given where partnership in the research project is also likely to develop between a regional university and a non-regional university.

How to Apply

  • Application process is now open and will close on May 15th, 2014.
  • Applicants should apply directly to a prospective university, make contact with a suitable supervisor and agree the research proposal that should comply with scholarship eligibility criteria. MEDRC’s guidelines for the preparation of research proposals are available on its website via www.medrc.org.om
  • University must provide MEDRC with documentation of their unconditional acceptance of the scholar to commence in 2014 with a recommendation that he/ she receives a MEDRC scholarship award.
  • Scholars should provide MEDRC with a copy of his/ her passport (information page) and CV including photograph.
  • Scholars should submit a statement of purpose to MEDRC describing how he/ she will use the advanced education to contribute to advancements in the field of desalination within the MENA region.
  • Deadline for proposal submission including required supporting documents to MEDRC is 15 May 2014 via scholarships@medrc.org.om


Remarks

  • Selection will be made on a competitive basis and are now limited to students from MEDRC MENA member countries.
  • Fair distribution of scholarship funds across the MEDRC MENA countries will play an important role in the final selection process.


Selection Decision

  • Successful applicants will be contacted within a month from the deadline for applications. The student then proceeds with formalities to enroll with the university unless, otherwise currently enrolled.
