News 2nd IWaTec Winter School: Water and Energy for Egypt

The IWaTec consortium in cooperation with Campus El Gouna - TU Berlin is conducting the second winter school on "Sustainable Use of Resources: Water and Energy for Egypt" from 16 to 20 February. The main objective of the school is to bring together scientists, experts, and students from Germany and Egypt for scientific and knowledge exchange about water and energy technologies that are important for Egypt.

Some 15 well-known experts from Germany and Egypt are giving lectures and presentations on topics such as membrane technologies, solar driven desalination, sustainable water management, microbiology in drinking water, ecology and human health, solar cell technology and wastewater treatment. The invited speakers are reporting on the latest scientific results and cutting edge technologies. 

To experience the application of technology first hand, a desalination plant was visited during an excursion around El Gouna, Red Sea.

The participants of the winter school were also given the opportunity to present their own research results and/or interested topics in form of poster presentations.

Postgraduate program in Integrated Water Technologies for Egyptian Master Students

IWaTec is a joint project between the Centre for Water and Environmental Research (ZWU) at University of Duisburg-Essen and Fayoum University in Egypt. Several other research and industrial partners are cooperating within IWaTec. IWaTec is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and financed by the Federal Foreign Office with total of  220,000 Euro till the end of 2013. It is expected that IWaTec will be extended till end of 2014. The quality of the program objectives will be assured by a scientific Steering Committee.
