Morocco: The creation of the National Centre of Studies and Research on Water and Energy (CNEREE)

The university Cadi Ayyad is recognised around the world for its quality and innovation in research. From the beginning, the main objective of the creation of the university was the contribution to socio-economical development of the region via the promotion of research topics that contributes to sustainable development. The university is considered as a leader in the topics of water and waste water research in Morocco.

Recently the university shelters also a new centre of research: The National Centre of Studies and Research on Water and Energy (CNEREE) witch constitutes a scientific platform for the applied research and transfer of the know how to the socio-professional sector. The CNEREE (www.uicam.ac.ma/cneree) was established in 2008 within the framework of the Moroccan five-year social and economic development plan by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The Center supports Cadi Ayyad University's mission through applied research projects designed to address local water, energy and environmental necessities. The objectives of the CNERRE as regards research/development are articulated around the programs and priorities established by the Moroccan State as regards water resources integrated Management and Renewable Energies.

The CNEREE develop programs incorporating research, education and service directed toward solutions to water and energy problems in different areas. Through collaborative work with its national and international partners and sponsors, the CNEREE will be able to assist in the development of solutions to a variety of contemporary water, energy and environmental problems.
