Call for applications for the International training course: "Integrated Sustainable Coastal Development – MENA region"

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)offers, as part of its bilateral development assistance, AdvancedInternationalTraining Programmes of strategic importance to the socialand economic development in the participants’ countries. The InternationalTraining Programmes are specially designed for persons qualifiedto participate in reform processes of strategic importance on differentlevels and hold a position in their home organisations withmandate to run processes of change. This methodology is based onthe assumption that your country wish to carry out changes and arewilling to invest own resources to achieve these changes. In the longtermperspective the programmes shall contribute to institutionalstrengthening and capacity development in the participants’ countries.Training is focused on support to individual or team plansfor change. The plan shall be well established in the participant’s organisationand is a basic part of the programme concept.
Half of the Earth’s population is living in coastal areas and the populationdensity here is the double compared to the global average. Coastalzones all over the world are exposed to serious challenges relatedto over population and urbanisation - and to competitive use of resourcesand ecosystem services from activities such as agriculture,fishery, tourism and industry. Sensitive ecosystems and negative effectsfrom climate change increase the importance of a sustainabledevelopment and the need for an integrated planning and management,where the needs and rights of poor people are taken into account.Through this international training programme we aim at a longterm contribution to sustainable development of these coastal areas.The programme focuses on nature conservation, integration andstakeholder participation, spatial planning as a tool for developmentwith inclusion of women, youth and other vulnerable groups in theplanning process.
