News Stockholm International Water Institute wins the Prince Albert II of Monaco Water Award

The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) has been named the 2012 Prince Albert II of Monaco Water Award laureate in recognition of its "high contributions on water issues".

H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco will present the prize at a ceremony in London on October 12, 2012. SIWI is a Stockholm-based international policy institute that contributes to international efforts to combat the world's escalating water crisis.

"We are extremely honoured to receive the prestigious Prince Albert II of Monaco Water Award," said Per Bertilsson, Acting Executive Director at SIWI. “This will further inspire us to continue our work to generate and promote knowledge, solutions and tools leading to water wise decisions for sustainable development."

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation was established in 2006 to support concrete action to protect the environment and for sustainable development. Since 2008, the foundation presents annual awards to honour key international figures and organisations for exemplary work in three key areas: climate change, biodiversity and water. Prof. Malin Falkenmark, Senior Scientific Advisor at SIWI, received the Prince Albert II of Monaco Water and Desertification Award in 2010 for her outstanding contributions to scientific understanding of regional and global water scarcity. SIWI is the first organisation to receive the prize.
