News Germany: Sustainable research – creating transformative knowledge

As part of the "Year of Science 2012 - Future Project Earth", sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the event series "Nachhaltig forschen – transformatives Wissen schaffen" will start with an opening event on 6 February 2012 in Berlin.

The Ecological Research Network (EcoRNet), together with the "Sustainable Research" network (NaWis), will host the initiative "Creating Transformative Knowledge". EcoRNet is a collection of independent environment and sustainability research institutes providing leading edge transformative sustainability research for more than 20 years.

As a part of the upcoming science year "Future Project Earth", sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the initiative will discuss how the science sector can contribute as an engine for the transformation to a sustainable society.

The opening event, held on 6 February 2012, will take place at the permanent representation of North Rhine-Westphalia in Berlin. Among the guests are the ministers for research Svenja Schulze (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Theresia Bauer (Baden-Wurttemberg). The event and the following seminars and workshops will highlight best practice examples for transformative and interdisciplinary sustainability research on the national and international level.

The series of events will be coordinated by the Wuppertal Institute’s Berlin office and is funded by the Mercator Foundation.
