News The Euro-Mediterranean University: How to move forward

Ministers, academics and European Union officials as well as EMUNI network members and representatives of International Organisations have taken part in a seminar on prospects of the Euro-Mediterranean University organised by the parliamentary assembly for the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), working group for the Euro-Mediterranean University.

Ms. Rodi Kratsa, Vice President of the European Parliament responsible for Euro-Mediterranean Relations, opened the sessions and emphasised the role EMUNI is playing in closing the gap between the north and the South of the Mediterranean, calling for more support of different multi-stake holders in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East in order to help EMUNI address challenges to Higher Education more efficiently.

Professor Joseph Mifsud, President the Euro-Mediterranean University gave an up-to-date account of the pros and cons of this project, calling for a more diversified formula through a multi-site, multi-partner and multi-stakeholder approach.

The Seminar, attended by the League of the Arab states and the OECD, was an opportunity for EMUNI to listen and learn from participants’ diverse experiences and critics while calling for more constructive debate in the near future.

EMUNI is an international university based in Slovenia. It represents one of the six projects of the Union for the Mediterranean, which were confirmed within the common declaration, adopted in Paris, on July 13, 2008. It aims to contribute to harmonisation of higher education and research and contribute to lasting development of the wider social-economic and cultural environment in Euro-Med countries.
