News Policy Officer on Biodiversity, Water & Soil Protection: EEB - European Environmental Bureau, Brussels (Deadline: 6 September)

The policy officer will work under the responsibility of the Director of the EU-Policy Unit. He/she will work mainly in the following areas:

1. Water: implementation of the Water Framework Directive and following related legislative proposals such as the review of the Priority Substances Directive.

2. Biodiversity: coordinating input into a new biodiversity policy framework post 2010 as well as following implementation of the Habitat and Birds Directive and the Natura 2000 network. Contribute to EEB’s work on natural resource use.

3. Soil: Actively following the developments around the Soil Framework Directive.

The successful candidate will: 

· Facilitate and co-ordinate the EEB’s experts work;

· network with EEB-members and partners to promote activities to influence EU decision-making;

· co-ordinate three working groups: on water, on biodiversity and on soil protection;

· prepare and communicate EEB positions on relevant issues;

· represent the EEB in technical and strategy committees of the European Commission and on other occasions;

· be an active member of the EU policy team under the co-ordination of the Director;

· deal with media in co-operation with both the Director and the media support.

Qualities and Experiences

The Policy Officer should:

· have affinity with environmental organisations in Europe;

· have capability in team-working;

· have knowledge of relevant environmental issues;

· have experience with environmental policy work, including analysis of policy proposals, formulation and presentation of both oral and written comments/ proposals for change;

· have knowledge of the operation of the European Union Institutions as well as EU environmental legislation;

· have strong communication and networking skills;

· be flexible in dealing with environmental topics;

· speak and write English fluently, and preferably also French;

· be prepared to work outside normal office hours, if necessary, and to travel.

 

EEB offers:

· a gross monthly salary of 3.025 EUR plus benefits [holiday bonus, 13th month, pension scheme, luncheon vouchers], and
