Wastewater Treatment And Reuse 2009: Current And Future Opportunities In An Expanding Market

MEED’s Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Conference 2009 is set to open its doors on the 8th December 2009 at the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort, UAE.

MEED’s annual two day conference has become a firm fixture in the calendar for anyone with a vested interest in the Gulf region’s wastewater treatment and reuse industry and, this year, includes a welcome address from H.E. Dr Salem Al Dhahiri, Ministry of Environment and Water, UAE and an opening keynote address from Mohammad Al Hajjiri, Head of Water Forecasting Section, ADWEC which will feature a forecast on the future water demands for Abu Dhabi.

Already the most water scarce region in the world, the Gulf has had to contend with huge population growth in recent years and with it demand for potable water has soared. Wastewater treatment and reuse is the need of the hour and vital to help cope with the increasing demand. Across the region, much of the existing sewage treatment infrastructure is over twenty years old and is incapable of meeting today's requirements, both in terms of handling volumes and treating effluent to international standards. As such, taking the necessary action to ensure the region has adequate wastewater treatment capacity is now a priority for the region’s utility providers.
