News Call for abstracts for the International Conference on Soil Classification and Reclamation of Degraded Lands in Arid Environments and Launch of the Abu Dhabi Soil Survey Report

This conference will be held in Abu Dhabi (UAE) on 17-19 May 2009.

The objectives of the Conference are:

  • To launch the Abu Dhabi Soil Survey Report.
  • To discuss and review classification of soils and land use in the arid environment.
  • To examine advances made in soil salinity mapping, monitoring and land reclamation in degraded irrigated agriculture ecosystems.
  • To review the impacts of the use of marginal water in agriculture and landscaping.
  • To identify research development needs and utilization of the soil survey database and classification.
  • To bring together scientists, professionals and decision-makers to share knowledge and information on land use and planning.

Scientific Sessions

  1. Soil Survey and Classification Strategies and their use in different agroecological zones.
  2. Advances in soil salinity mapping, monitoring and reclamation.
  3. Land use planning and policy implications.
  4. Use of marginal quality water in agriculture and landscaping.
  5. Research and development/innovation in Soil Classification and Reclamation.
  6. Workshop on constraints, potential and use of the soil survey database.

 

The Scientific Committee invites international scientists to attend the conference and present their work relevant to the conference themes. Interested participants can send an abstract (300 words Arial 11, abstract title Arial 14 bold) by email to the Chairman of the Scientific Committee Prof. Dr Faisal Taha of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture f.taha@biosaline.org.ae

Notification of abstract acceptance: 20 December
