News Vacancy - Head of Groundwater Science

Part of the UK Natural Environment Research Council, the British Geological Survey is looking to appoint a visionary scientific leader to join our senior team in implementing a new strategy to consolidate and enhance our position as a world leading geological survey and environmental science research organisation. As the Head of Groundwater Science, you will be expected to develop and communicate a near and long term vision for the Groundwater Science area, covering a range of activities from public policy to scientific research. You will have a good grasp of developing funding opportunities and strategies in research councils, government agencies and the private sector and should be able to act as a forward-looking spokesperson for BGS in the area of Groundwater Science.

You will have a track record of collaborations with academia, industry, government and other NERC centres.  You should also demonstrate evidence of successfully developing Commissioned Research with a variety of clients, and be able to demonstrate an involvement in science and science policy through engagement with professional bodies, representation on advisory bodies, scientific evaluation boards etc. In addition you should ideally have experience of working overseas and be a chartered member of a relevant professional institution.
