Participatory Water Monitoring
The Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman, the independent office that ensures accountability of IFC and MIGA projects and programs, has produced an advisory note on participatory water monitoring, with lessons learned from its work around the Yanacocha mining project in Peru. Participatory monitoring is a powerful tool for communities and companies in preventing and solving disputes over project data. The report provides hands-on guidance for implementing successful participatory water monitoring programs, as well as practical models for collaborative engagement in environmental oversight in other contexts.
