EC and Israel agree on statistical data exchange
The EC and Israel
have signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the basis for a
sustainable exchange of data between the Israeli statistical office and
Eurostat, within the context of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP).
Israel is the first Mediterranean Partner country to sign such a memorandum. The statistical offices of Morocco and the Occupied Palestinian Territory are expected to follow. Negotiations with other Mediterranean Partner Countries on similar memoranda are being carried out.
Co-operation will focus on the
exchange of data for the following priority sectors: Agriculture,
Energy, Environment, External Trade & Balance of Payments, National
Accounts, Social, Transport, and Tourism.
EuropeAid’s Regional Programme funds
MEDSTAT II, a project that aims at strengthening the capacity of the
partner countries’ National Statistics Institutes and each country’s
own National Statistical System in order to provide updated, timely,
reliable and relevant high-quality statistical data necessary for
political decision-making and to ensure good governance.
