News Within ALJ Grant for Funding Scientific Research in the Arab World Arab Science and Technology Foundation runs a Research Project on a New Technology of Detecting Water Purity

The quality of the potable water has become a growing concern in most of the Arab countries due to the pollution resulting from factories, hospitals, etc. Interest has also increased in regard to the effects of the gluey minerals caused by pollution.

It is worth mentioning that the methods used currently in detecting water quality focus on certain kinds of pollutants and need a high number of employees. Furthermore, the devices used in measuring the quality of water have limited sensitivity; hence, they contravene the rules of the World Health Organization.

Among the projects funded by Abdul Latif Jameel (ALJ) Grant for funding scientific research in the Arab world, which is run by the Arab Science and Technology Foundation within the activities of ALJ Community Service Program, is an advanced technology of detecting water purity. This technology has been developed by an Arab team of researchers. Through the new technology, all types of water can undergo a purity test using an automatic control system. It is possible through this developed system to control water and detect several kinds of pollutants simultaneously without the need to prepare several samples. This system gives immediate and accurate results in a very short time (about a minute) and works automatically 24 hours a day. The results are sent through a computer system within this technology to different test centers; accordingly, statistical data are made available promptly and accurately. The substantial value of this technology is avoiding the occurrence of any risks of polluted water.
