Call for applicants for MDGs Fellowship Scheme

TVE and the One World Broadcasting Trust are promoting an exciting new opportunity for broadcasters/producers to spend time in a developing country exploring a project linked to delivery of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The new MDG Fellowship programme will allow three to five broadcasters or producers to spend 3-5 weeks in a developing country attached to an international organization, government agency or local NGO working to deliver one or more of the MDGs. The overall goal is to allow Fellows to gain greater insight into the progress countries are making – or the obstacles they are encountering – in achieving the MDG goals by 2015. The eventual outcome is expected to be one or more programmes about MDG themes broadcast on television or radio in each of the Fellows’ home countries.

Applicants for the Fellowships are invited to submit a short application form, outlining their ideas about how the Fellowship/s will increase their understanding of the challenges represented by the MDGs in a particular country or community, and provide an outline budget for their proposed visit. The Fellowship scheme covers the costs of travel and subsistence in developing countries.

The new MDG Fellowship scheme is part of TVE and OWBT’s project, The View from the South, aimed at enhancing the European public understanding of developing countries’ progress towards - and the barriers to - achieving the MDGs as well as the responsibilities that the EU and other G8 countries have in continuing to support the Global Partnership for Development that can accelerate greater progress.
