News Director General - International Water Management Institute

A visionary leader is required for the position of director general to guide The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in its mission to overcome key challenges relating to: land, water, food, livelihoods and health. The IWMI is a non-profit scientific organisation engaged in collaborative research with partners in the north and south to develop tools and practices to help developing countries eradicate poverty and better manage their land and water resources. Candidates must have:

    * A Phd or experience equivalent, plus an established professional reputation in the natural or social sciences related to land and water resources.
    * A broad understanding of sustainable cross-sectoral land and water resources and the global issues affecting them.
    * Senior management experience in a research and training institution; preferably in a developing country other than the country of birth.
    * Strong communication skills.
    * A demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary, multicultural setting.
    * Extensive fundraising experience and familiarity with the relevant donor community.
    * Fluency in written and spoken English, with a knowledge of French is desirable.

The position is based at Colombo, Sri Lanka. Closing Date: 15 March 2007.
