Conference « The environment and development in the Mediterranean, past, present and future » on the occasion of Plan Bleu’s 40th anniversary

Plan Bleu and Association Serge Antoine will hold on June 5th in Paris a conference connecting forty years of reflections and actions for sustainable development in the Mediterranean region with the perception of this area current and futures challenges.

This day is organised with the support of the Comité d’Histoire of the Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, the Conseil général de l’agriculture et de l’Alimentation (CGAAER) of the Ministry for Agriculture and Food and the Mediterranean world Economic Foresight Institute (IPEMED).

In a first session, French and foreigner speakers will revisit Plan Bleu’s origin – on Serge Antoine’s initiative – and its works in such areas as prospective and environmental reporting, which gave Plan Bleu its legitimacy.

A second session will discuss the Mediterranean region’s possible futures using a prospective approach. A final round-table will gather Mediterranean experts and decision-makers.

On this occasion, Plan Bleu will present a new and ambitious foresight exercise (“MED 2050”), supported by the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention. This exercise, planned over the next four years, will aim at mobilizing Southern and Northern decision-makers and stakeholders beyond geographic and institutional boundaries. MED 2050 will build on dialogues, partnerships and shared visions on this sensitive region’s desirable or preferable futures.
