Event TRAINING: A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO INFRASTRUCTURE ASSET MANAGEMENT OF URBAN WATER SYSTEMS

CHAIR: Helena Alegre

Date: 18 October, 2015

Location: Aqaba

Duration: 8.30-15.30

Introduction – rationale for training

Infrastructure asset systems (water catchments, water treatment plants, transmission and distribution networks, storage tanks and pumping stations, wastewater and storm water networks, retention tanks, wastewater treatment plants, etc.) play an important role in the economic development and transformation of nations. Owning and operating these assets presents continual challenges to the managers and engineers of the utilities and public service providers. Existing infrastructure is ageing while demand grows for improved and reliable water, wastewater and storm water services responding to increasingly stringent regulation as well as population evolution. To address these challenges, these water infrastructures need to be managed strategically, in order to balance performance, risk and cost over time, ensuring the sustainability of the service provided.
