Event A space-time framework for integrated studies. 2nd Edition: Water & Society "Eau et Société · une approche spatio-temporelle pour des études interdisciplinaires intégrées."

Motivations

In the context of climate change, the European Union and its southern partners are particularly concerned with water resources issues, including droughts, dry-spells, water quality, excess of runoff and extended floods.

To address these issues, an end-to-end approach is necessary to understand the physical processes and the elements of social organization and adaptation.

The Water&Society Summer school aims at proposing a new integrated approach based on the"scaling" issue.

Questions

Three main questions motivate the education program :

  • With regard to water challenges, what are the interactions and links between the spatial and temporal dynamics of the climate and the dynamics of the society ?
  • What observation strategies are required to improve our understanding of the interactions between the social and the geophysical components ?
  • Which actions are necessary to truly conductintegrated studies dealing with "Water & Society" ?

Objectives

The main objective of the summer school is to share a common basic knowledge and vocabulary to address integrated studies involving meteorology, climate, hydrology and social sciences. This common ground will allow us to build new ways to address these interdisciplinary issues.

The Water&Society Summer school will bring early career scientist, PhD students, practitioners, from both social and physical sciences. Together, we will address these questions and acquire interdisciplinary skills.
