Background

In ancient civilizations, in arid regions populations have shown a major form of adaptation to the constraints of water scarcity and aridity of the environment through the development of a know-how and heuristics expertise on traditional systems of mobilization of water resources that are original, complex and powerful called Qanat, Khettara, Foggara, AFlaj, Kahriz,…). The benefits and knowledge that can be selected from this sustainable water system could make an important contribution to rational planning and water supply in cities and territories as part of an approach to resilience climate change and to participatory community. The objective of the first IWA Workshop on Traditional Qanats Technologies is: how to learn from the expertise on Traditional Qanat Systems to improve for the future?
