Event Summer course "Climate change and hydrology: from science to practice in water and soil management"

Spain is among the European countries with the most severe environmental problems related to water scarcity and droughts, something which is likely to increase by the impact of land use and management and global warming. Studies confirm that changes in the hydrological cycle in semiarid basins are occurring due to increasing temperatures and higher frequencies of extreme rainfall and drought events related to increased climate variability. Based on the latest developments and experience, this course provides insight in the tools which allow to anticipate, diagnose and adapt to the hydrological changes linked to global change scenarios. The course participants will learn about different methodologies for climate change impact assessments and a variety of models and tools to understand its impacts and study possible solutions. Several case studies will be analyzed that quantified impacts through modeling and evaluated the implementation of adaptation measures through the enhanced management of soil and water resources. The course will be taught by researchers from R & D Group for Water Resources Management (UPCT), CSIC-CEBAS, CHS (MAGRAMA), FutureWater and EVREN. It will also include a technical excursion. The course will be in Spanish.
