3rd SCARCE International Conference: : Bridging toxicants, stressors and risk-based management under water scarcity
The SCARCE-Consolider-Ingenio project aims to predict the relevance of global change impacts on water quality and availability in Mediterranean river basins, as well as, their impacts on the ecosystem services, human society and economy. The project assembles a multidisciplinary view through several disciplines, considering also the active involvement of Water Authorities. As both water scarcity and climate change do not respect borders, it adds an international dimension to the project and to the conference.
Water has become a precious resource on which the well-being and even the survival of future generations critically depend. Issues relating to water such as quality, quantity, availability, planning and management will have to be seriously tackled now and in the future.
Further, issues on water scarcity involve protection of vulnerable water systems, sustainable development of water resources, safeguarding access to water functions and services, and protection against water related hazards (floods and droughts). As such, managing water resources for the future is very complicated and will requires multidisciplinary approaches across various problem solving research tools.
