Event 16th International Symposium on Environmental Pollution and its Impact on Life in the Mediterranean Region

The Executive Committee,  the Steering and the National Organizing Committees of the  TMediterranean Scienti? c Association of Environmental Protection (MESAEP) have the pleasure to forward this invitation to attend the   th16 International MESAEP Symposium on “Environmental Pollution and its Impact on Life in the Mediterranean Region”,  that will be held in Ioannina/Greece from September 24 to 27, 2011

Objectives

The objectives of the symposium provide opportunities for scientists of different countries to:

exchange recent results related to the processes of environmental pollution and its effects on public health in the Mediterranean region

discuss current technological and legal measures to avoid or reduce the degradation of the environment

present suggestions and recommendations to the regulatory authorities on environmental quality and safety in the Mediterranean and other neighbouring countries.

This year's symposium will focus on the “Sustainable Water Management”. Water scarcity increases the pressure for sustainable water management and deeper understanding of how water resources deteriorate over time and space.

Oral & poster presentationsPaper publications

The program of the symposium will include plenary and keynote lectures, oral presentations as well as posters. Oral and poster contributions will be regarded scientifically equivalent in the program. Special focus will be devoted to the brief presentation of posters of original papers in full audience sessions. All presentations (oral and posters) should be in English.For oral and poster contributions, a one-page abstract should be submitted to the mailing address reported below not later than May 20, 2011.

Abstracts may only be submitted by e-mail, as an attached file, to the following address:

Abstract should be arranged as shown on the PDF-example or the Word-file, found on the website of the Symposium.The book of abstracts will be distributed in USB-stick to all participants upon registration at the Symposium.

Poster or oral presentation will be accepted if at least one of the authors is registered and present at the symposium for personal communication.

The Steering Committee of the Symposium will notify the authors on the acceptance and on the form of presentation by June 20, 2011.

All papers presented at the symposium will be eligible, upon refereeing, for publication in the peer reviewed international journal FRESENIUS ENVIRONMENTAL BULLETIN (FEB), the official journal of MESAEP.symp11@mesaep.org23

Support of new young scientists - FellowshipSpecial Events

In memory of Dr. Emmanuel Lahaniatis, founding member and past president of MESAEP, the association establishes one (1) scholarship award to support a young scientist in his/her first year of the post-graduate studies. The scholarship will be awarded for the first time during the 16th Symposium of MESAEP. 

The  “Dr. Emmanuel Lahaniatis Scholarship”  is a €5,000 non-renewable award and is intended to support the young scientists in their pursuit of continuing education. To qualify, the applicant must:Ÿbe a graduated student with University B.Sc.Ÿbe up to 25 years of ageŸ have already been accepted in a University abroad for M.Sc. under the general subject: Ÿcomes from a country of the Mediterranean Region

The applicants should fill out and send the application form found in MESAEP web-site along with a short CV and their B.Sc. degree.

A Selection Committee of past MESAEP presidents will be appointed to review the applications.

A limited number of scientists from Balkan and African countries will be supported financially on the basis of paper submission and after request.Ÿ
