Event World Congress on Advancing Sustainable Hydropower

This Congress is an occasion not to be missed. It is intended to be definitive in setting the future for sustainable hydropower. A Training Course on Hydropower Sustainability Assessment will precede the Congress on 27 May. A Networking Tour to the Manavgat River Basin will take place on 28 May. There will also be an exhibition concurrent with the Congress.

The three-day Congress will focus on: Water and Energy Optimization, and Looking at hydropower’s role in maximizing the benefits and services from multipurpose infrastructure, with emphasis on both existing schemes and new developments.

Renewables Innovation
Reviewing the latest developments in terms of technologies, prototypes, applications and linkages throughout the renewables portfolio, including the latest developments in hydropower technology.

Sustainability and Certification
Evaluating recent policy and directives (affecting both developed- and less developed countries), discussing corporate responsibility and assessing linkages with finance, regulation, business and industry. Reviewing the value of current and future certification systems for hydropower.

Pre-Congress activities include a Technical Networking Tour. Congress delegates will visit a major hydro development, cruise on its reservoir, visit an ancient amphitheatre, experience some of Turkey’s rich culture, and network with fellow participants.

An international training course in Hydropower Sustainability Assessment will also take place during the Congress. Delegates will have an opportunity to learn about the purpose and application of the new IHA Sustainability Assessment Protocol (SAP). The course will be conducted by key developers of the SAP, and delegates will gain an insight into its use in the implementation of new projects and the operation of existing schemes.

Post-Congress activities include Study Tours. Excursions will give delegates the opportunity to inspect some of the most prestigious and innovative hydro schemes in Turkey. Local cultural tours will also be arranged during the Congress for accompanying persons.

CALL FOR PAPERS:

The Congress proceedings will include papers reporting on recent developments and case studies on the following themes:

- Adding value at new and existing multipurpose infrastructure
- Recent advances and experience in hydropower and other renewable technologies
- Opportunities and challenges relating to financing criteria, corporate responsibility, sustainable development policy and certification systems

For each theme, a committee will review the abstracts and decide which will be recommended for presentation during the Congress. Selected papers will be included in congress and poster sessions; additional papers will be included in the proceedings documentation.

Delegates interested in submitting a paper, should send a 300-word abstract to the email address shown below. Please include the name and contact details of the main author. Abstracts should be submitted before Monday 20 November 2006.

The Congress fee will be approximately  € 680. There will be additional charges to participate in the training course and the various tours.
