Event Man and River Systems II: Interactions among Rivers, their Watershed and the Social system

The purpose of this symposium is to take stock of the achievements of river system studies undertaken at the whole watershed scale and discuss new challenges for a better understanding and management of the complex interactions between aquatic ecosystems and human activity in the watershed. The major objective of the symposium is to promote interdisciplinarity between natural and social sciences. For that purpose, the planned sessions provide a gradient of topical issues spanning both fields.
The programme includes five plenary sessions, with accompanying poster sessions :
1. Integration of physical, geochemical and microbial processes within riverine ecosystems
2. Interactions between aquatic and terrestrial systems: diffuse sources and sinks
3. Basin-scale ecological functioning: can we define a good ecological status ?
4. Evaluation of public policies and technical tools for river basin management
5. Challenges for the future
