If you have to participate in the next 15th Congress of the African Water Association and at the International Exhibition on Water and Sanitation,  which will take place in Kampala in Uganda on 15-18 March 2010, the International Network of  Water Training Centres - INWTC - is pleased to invite you to participate in the international workshop on « Technical Vocational Training for Water Professions », that it organizes, in partnership with the French Development Agency, on Wednesday 17 March 2010 from 10:30 to 13:00, room 6.

Based on several testimonies of training managers, this workshop will allow dealing with the topics:

§Challenges of professional training in the water sector in Africa,

§Drafting of training plans to meet the needs,

§Conditions needed for mobilizing the necessary human, technical and financial resources,

§Methods for achieving sustainability of water and sanitation training systems.

Indeed, to achieve the Millennium Goals aiming at improving drinking water supply to the populations and better access to sanitation, the Authorities of many countries are making unprecedented efforts worldwide and in Africa in particular. Thus very significant investments are made every year for the reinforcement and extension of hydraulic infrastructures.

But too often, weaknesses in the management of water and sanitation utilities and, first of all, insufficiencies in the operation and maintenance of installations do not allow achieving the laid down goals.

To ensure the long-life of infrastructures and to guarantee quality services, skills in management, operation and maintenance are needed from the executives, team leaders, employees and workmen of the water sector, but they are still to be developed everywhere, when they are not unfortunately still severely lacking. In each country, it is necessary to build or increase the local capacities for professional training, whether basic or continuous.

For better exchanging their experience, the specialized training centres of fifteen countries (Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, France, Kenya, Laos, Lebanon, Mali, Morocco, Mexico, Poland, Togo, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Vietnam), created the International Network of Water Training Centres – INWTC - in November 2008.

You think, like we do, that capacity building is necessary for better water management?

Then, participate with us in this INWTC Workshop!
