Following the first Call for Proposals for regional SMAP projects in 1998, 6 regional environmental projects were selected and financed by the European Commission with a total EC contribution of € 5.5 million. Only one project is related to the water priority: "S.E. Mediterranean Water Community Programmes" (Dec’01/Dec’04) coordinated by the Friends of the Earth -Middle East, Israel. It involves partners in Belgium, Israel, Jordan and Palestine.
