Kick-off meeting of the 2013 Halting Desertification in Europe Pilot projects
The Kick-off meeting of the 2013 Halting Desertification in Europe Pilot projects will take place on February, 5th 2014 in Brussels. It is organised by the EC DG Environment (Directorate C - Quality of Life, Water & Air ENV.C.1 - Water).
This event will be the occasion to present the work on water accounts at EU level, including the work of the European Environment Agency (EEA) and JRC. It will be also an occasion to present the lessons learnt from the 2011 pilot projects: • System of Economic and Environmental Accounts for Water in Guadiana River Basin (GuaSEEAW), • Halting desertification in the Jucar River Basin (Halt-Jucar-Des), and • Assessment of water balances and optimization based target setting across EU River Basins (ABOT).
The new 2013 pilot projects will be also presented:
• New Developments in Water Accounts Implementation in Guadiana River Basin
• Duero River Basin: Water resources, water accounts and target sustainability indices
• System of Water Accounting in the Guadalquivir River Basin
• Pilot Arno Water accounts (PAWA)
• Pilot project on water balances in the Tagus River Basin (PROTAGUS)
• Accounting System for the Segura River and Transfers (ASSET)
• Water accounting in a multi-catchment district (WAMCD)
Finally, the EC DG Environment officers will present the reporting requirements (financial, technical, timesheets), conclusions and the next steps.
