DSI - STATE HYDRAULIC WORKS AND IMPLEMENTATION OF WATER DATABASE AT DSI
( Brief Information Report)
The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), is a legal entity and is the primary executive state agency responsible for planning, management, development, and operation of the nation's overall water resources. DSI works under the aegis of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MENR). DSI;
- construct dams;
- build flood control facilities;
- equip land with irrigation facilities;
- reclaim swamps;
- generate hydroelectric power;
- improve rivers for navigation;
- carry out all kind of related surveys, project and construction; and
- execute the duties of operation, maintenance, and repair of the facilities.
DSI has 13 department heads in the central office and 25 Regional Directorates, which are dispersed throughout Turkey and which execute their work on behalf of the DSI General Director according to annual and 5-year development plans as well as investment programs.
- Turkiye's water resources are barely enough, so that;
- Using water beneficially,
- Distributing evenly between sectors,
- Sustainable management of water and watersheds,
- Operating and managing ground and underground water without harming environment for irrigation water for agriculture, domestic use and depositing as dam and ponds.
WATER DATABASE PROJECT (DSI - SVT)
- The data related to Turkiye's all kind of ground and underground water sources (quantity and quality data);
- Will be collected in a central database via satellite/GPRS/GSM,
- Will be evaluated hydraulically, hydrologically by means of quantity and quality,
- Will be simulated,
- Will be evaluated with consideration of environmental effects,
Data at SVT could be reached on time easily and any kind of necessary inquiries will be possible so that the data will be used not only for hydrologic and planning works but also for operation and protection works intensively,
The data where flood occurrence probability is high will be collected at short frequencies and will be used with the other data like rain and snow so flood forecasting will be done.
The database will be implemented within one year.
